A skin disorder like acne is just one of the many diseases the human body can succumb to in a lifetime. Others are as basic as the common cold to one such disease as serious as cancer.

Some of these illnesses and diseases can be seen externally while others are internal. Although modern medicine has found cures for many of these through the years others go unsolved while laboratories studies continue efforts to find their cure.

A skin disorder is an example of something that can happen internally in a person. This is because it affects the skin’s oil glands. If people are not able to wash properly and germs stick to the pores, pimples develop.

Teens and Adults
Although pimples can be just a phase they can also worsen. This often times leads to acne in teens. A recent study has concluded that pimples and acne can also happen again when the person reaches adulthood.

The same study shows there are more than 17 million Americans who experience this type of skin disorder. The good news is that most of this will disappear by the time the individual reaches the age of 30. A major concern for those who are affected is prevention of scarring from the skin disorder which becomes permanent.

Causes of Acne
Is there an answer to what causes acne? No, not yet. Doctors do not yet know the exact cause, although they have reason to believe that there are many possibilities which include the following:

  • When females reach the age of puberty, the hormones are very active which have an effect on the oil glands plugging more frequently. This can be from sports and other activities, which the individual does as a teen.
  • When women are pregnant, some physiological changes occur within the body that may effect and cause pimples to break out and cause acne.
  • Those using birth control may see acne symptoms or increased outbreaks when changing from one brand of birth control to another.
    Besides contraceptives, other medications may also cause acne problems for the individual.
  • Some studies suggest that acne is heredity. So, if the mother or father suffers from acne problems, there is a good possibility that their children will also experience pimples or acne.
  • Eating spicy foods or other ingredients, which the person is sensitive to, may cause acne.
  • Anyone with sensitive skin may also be effected by oil based beauty products.
  • The environment can also play a factor in causing this skin disorder. If a person has a skin disorder and lives in an environment with where they face pollution regulary such as smoke from vehicles and discharge from factories everyday, there is a greater chance of outbreaks.

Acne Treatment
Acne is a treatable skin disorder even if there are a lot of causes. The various products in the market such as those derived form natural ingredients, water based beauty products, medication and surgery can help the person get rid of this problem.

It is best to consult with a dermatologist first because doing this without any help through a hit or miss process takes a longer time for the patient to recover.

The doctor can only recommend proper treatment after conducting some tests. When medication has been prescribed, the individual has to be patient because this usually takes two to three months to see the results.

When acne has disappeared, prevention is the best way to make sure it will not return. To maintain clear acne free skin, the person should cleanse their face and body with soap, cleansers and moisturizers after waking up in the morning and before going to bed. For maximum results, the maintenance program should include products or medications suggested by the dermatologist.
